In the seventeenth century, in the wake of The Enlightenment, the Dutch Republic was the only country in which freedom of conscience was enshrined in the law, resulting in the influx of refugees of all possible religious backgrounds.

In 1890 the New York Times published the first of over 700 articles on Dutch Tolerance.

Last month (March 2015), Geert Wilders’ party ‘PVV’ (‘Freedom Party’…notice the irony!) ranked highest in the polls for the Lower House. What have we become?
